me&myBoys

Life with boys. Married to one, raising one, and one that is brand new. Gotta love it.

I am 30 years old, married with children. If the 20's are for finding yourself, I think it's happened just in time. Up til now I've kind of felt like a poser. But, these boys . . . Ry, G, & O . . . they've helped me become who I'm supposed to be. Being part of their lives, helping them know they are precious and loved is what I am supposed to do. Everything else is extra to that primary goal.

Shy-guy

Graham requested that his buddy, Luke join us for lunch at Applbees a couple days ago. We were meeting Ryan for lunch because he was headed out of town and likes to see the boys as much as he can before-hand. Graham was so proud to have a guest, and puffed his little chest out as he tried to act so grown up, it was adorable. "Wuke, der's my baby, Owen." and "Wuke, I have a puppy" (which he really doesn't, when I asked G where he keeps his puppy, he informed me "with Dusty" which is fine with me, I'd prefer someone else board our pet:-)

Well, at the end of our lunch, Luke had to use the restroom, and of course Graham immediately had to as well. Ryan told me afterwards the chain of events in the men's room. Apparently Luke can use the urinal, which is brand new to Graham who is more of a beginner to the finer nuances of potty-training. He still using pull-ups and has yet to do #2 in the toilet.

But, when Graham saw Luke STANDING. He was totally determined to doing the same. Ryan helped him get in position. Then . . . nothing. They waited some more . . . nothing. I don't understand this phenomenon of being unable to go on command, as I'm pretty sure that if ever put to the test, I could stop and start at my leisure regardless of who's watching. But Ryan could empathize with little G. So, he made the decision that Graham would have to do business while sitting in the stall. Little did Ryan know that Graham would INSIST on stripping down (he has to be nearly nude to use the toilet-no shoes, no pants, no underwear)

But atlast . . . success. But before Ryan knew what had happened. Graham had jumped off the toilet exclaiming "it's working!" and runs over to the urinal to finish up!

I love it when things like that happen to fathers!! It is such a nice reminder to them of what mom deals with EVERY DAY. Although, I would have probably gotten a look and a comment like, "why have you LET him do that at home?"

That's a great story...thanks for sharing!

That is hysterical! I love the look I can imagine that was on Ryan's face. Fatherhood is doing wonderful things to him, don't you think?

Cooper won't even do #1 on the potty so kudos to Graham for even going!!! I agree with Heidi, I love it when they get a glimpse of what our day is like!

Such a funny story! This kind of stuff always seems to happen at public places. I agree that it is good to happen to fathers once in a while. Sorry Ryan!

It's so great when they start to do what the 'big' kids are doing. Sometimes it can be really helpful.

I guess I'm a friend of your friends. I've seen your comments and peeked at your blog. I loved your post back a bit about the tub departure...so funny. My kids are grown, but I think we have all been there at one time or another with them. I have all girls, but this post just made me laugh, too funny. I've never had to deal with this one. I'm so glad there are daddy's out there who get the potty duty. I spent years taking three girls in the potty with me everywhere! (one who insisted on opening the doon on me at every chance she got:)
Hope you don't mind my comment or my visiting your blog.

I can relate to the strip down routine in the bathroom - Mark had to do the same - isn't fun to watch our "babies" grow up. My one and only "baby" is now 12 - where has the time gone.

Too funny! It is kind of nice when dads get a dose of what our normal world is like. :)
